Weekend Description:
Tired of sitting on the sidelines while others play music? This weekend workshop is for you!
You will learn the basics and beyond in this 8-hour clogging/flatfoot weekend workshop. Each session starts with a warm-up followed by instruction on a variety of basic steps. We will work in a large group, small groups, and individually learning how to string steps together and to improvise. You can take video of new steps after each class, and we will finish with some simple stretches. My teaching style is to dance more and talk less, so you will be active. We will take breaks as needed - interspersing dance with related discussions about footwear, places to dance, history of the dance, portable dance floors, music structure, and more.
Friday is an open introductory workshop, so expect a larger group. The weekend experience will be limited to 15 dancers. Children ages 10 and above are welcome if accompanied by a participating parent.
Bio:
Linda Block has taught Appalachian Clogging/Flat Foot classes for adults, seniors, and elementary students and has worked as an instructor at the John C. Campbell Folk School. She has performed with numerous Appalachian Clogging teams and currently dances with the infamous Green Grass Cloggers (since 2009). Over the years, she has placed 1st or 2nd in several solo clogging competitions. As a career Environmental Educator, she prides herself in her interactive and varied teaching style and receives high praise from her students. She passes her life-long passion for dance to those with whom she has the privilege to interact.
Linda’s dance and music habit started over 35 years ago with Israeli, Contra, and Square Dance. Her repertoire soon grew to include the varied rhythms of International Folk Dance, Clogging, Scandinavian Dance, Swing/Lindy Hop, Zydeco, Cajun, Country, and Salsa. In addition to clogging, she has performed with the Keren Ohr Israeli Dance Troupe, Penn State International Dance Troupe, Undecided String Band, Jazz Action Figures (Lindy), and on the streets as a busker. She placed 3rd in zydeco dance at the SW Louisiana Zydeco Music Festival.
