Virginia photographer Earl Palmer took thousands of pictures of rural western Virginia and the people living there. Palmer particularly liked scenes of shared work and craft activities. He captured on film real tradition-bearers, people whose skills were passed along through shared family and community experiences. Palmer often stages scenes to fit his vision, but the connections between the people in his images were real. The images in the "Helping Hands" exhibition are part of the Earl Palmer Collection at Ferrum College's Blue Ridge Institute and Museum. BACK TO ALL EVENTS
